Charlotte Ostafew

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I studied Recorder and Harpsichord at the Royal College of Music in 1998-2002, before transferring to Jazz with the Baritone Sax and Piano.

I have taught piano in schools and privately ever since leaving music college, and started writing my books for adults returning to the piano in about 2015 when I realised there wasn't much out there for this group. The books also work well for musicians transferring from other instruments.

From 2004-2018 I composed and performed in jazz bands. The Zen Hussies (festival favourites  in the South-West), gypsy jazz trio Bartoune, and Dakhla Brass who achieved success through BBC Introducing with performances at Montreal jazz festival and the 2016 BBC Proms with Jamie Cullum and a collaboration with Bristol Symphony Orchestra. I co-wrote 11 studio albums and performed at countless gigs and European festival tours.

I have also worked as a session musician and arranger for bands includin the Heavy, the Ephemerals, John Parish and Nadine Khouri.

I trained to teach the Alexander Technique and 2002 and this has been a big part of my life ever since. I bring elements of it into my piano teaching and have a separate website if you want to know more.

I was diagnosed with MS in 2007 and have been unable to gig since about 2018, so my focus has turned more to piano teaching and finishing my adults piano book series.
